We have a crackerjack foreign rights team, headed up by Danny Baror and Heather Baror Shapiro. Danny has been called the “king of foreign rights”, because he changed what used to be a sleepy, unaggressive approach into a competitive and vigorous business. His daughter, Heather, has learned from the best. What’s different about the Barors is that they rarely work with foreign agents. Instead, they sell directly to foreign publishers, which creates a more dynamic and personalized experience.
Danny Baror
President & CEO
Danny Baror is a pioneer in foreign rights representation having begun in 1983, seeing an opportunity to grow an underserved area of publishing. Danny has watched as foreign rights grew from a few tables in a corner of the Frankfurt Book Fair to sprawling 500 agency fair epicenters. It is this long and storied history that allows Danny to fully understand the intricacies of 30+ international markets where his clients reap the reward of decades of relationship building and knowledge.
Danny works directly with publishers worldwide enabling close contact and a personal relationship with editors throughout the globe. This approach creates a unified submission and publication process. His work ethic, aggressiveness, and won’t-take-no-for-an-answer attitude is unparalleled. He gets books into the hands of foreign editors; follows up these submissions tenaciously; creates buzz and excitement for his clients; and negotiates with a fervor that speaks to his limitless dedication.
